MDE™ Installations Surpass Projections Peabody, MA, June 2000 – Strategic Reporting Systems (SRS) announced today in a report made to its Board of Directors, MUMPS Data Extractor (MDE™) sales and installations for the first six months of the year 2000 have exceeded earlier projections. MDE™ is a COTS (commercial-off-the-shelf) middleware application that natively reads the FileMan-based M/Caché system, extracts then delivers data and pre-built SQL tables into relational data warehouses/marts, databases or applications. Unique to MDE™ is that it does not require any underlying M-based SQL, SQL mappings, or M/Caché programming to be performed. Within sixty minutes of installation, MDE™ allows a system’s data to be available for use with mainstream technologies. Examples are data warehouse/mart and ROLAP, products such as ReportSmith®, Crystal®, SAS, or desktop applications such as Microsoft® Excel, Word, Access or Lotus® Notes. Responsible for the vision, and for leading development of MDE™ is Brian Wells, Chief Technology Officer of SRS. "We are improving MDE™ everyday. In approximately one month, we will release V1.3, which will i) Integrate Microsoft’s® DTS (Data Transformation Services), ii) Add the ability to read all of the non-standard VA VISTA FileMan files to include Lab File, and iii) Provide an ability to connect multiple medical site FileMan-based M/Caché databases to concurrently extract data. In the end, we hope MDE™ will be as familiar a technology in use at the VA, DoD and IHS as French fries are to McDonalds," stated Mr. Wells. MDE™ extends the value and life of existing FileMan-based systems, such as the VA’s VISTA system. These systems represent the largest healthcare informatics systems in the world, yet they have remained a closed legacy environment unable to easily use mainstream technologies, such as data warehouse/marts, relational databases, or applications such as off-the-shelf ad-hoc reporting and query tools. MDE™ now allows these healthcare systems to benefit from today’s technology and applications. In his report to the Board of Directors David Lenhart, General Manager of SRS, noted "The Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) interest in MDE™ has given way to investment in MDE™. MDE™ opens their legacy MUMPS system for use by mainstream technologies and contemporary data analysis, research, and financial software applications. MDE™ has provided a low cost path for the VA to protect its investments while moving rapidly into the 21st century to better manage their costs, operations, and deliver a premium level of service to their Veterans. We are now beginning to see activity occur within the DoD Health Affairs and Indian Health Services " "SRS is a company possessing expert knowledge in MUMPS, M/Caché, FileMan, and reporting. We have long understood the pain organizations, such as the VA, feel in using these technologies," commented Richard Fried, President of SRS. "We are not surprised at this positive news surrounding MDE™, because we engineered MDE™ to specifically remedy the pain and problem these organizations face. We are very pleased with their confidence in us and are 150% committed to evolving MDE™ into the absolute premier data extraction and integration product for these organizations. No one delivers better overall solutions, support or commitment than SRS." SRS is headquartered in Peabody, MA. They provide comprehensive expert knowledge on reporting and database integration.
