Release of MDE V2.2 - Extract Word Processing Fields, Error Recovery System,
Enhanced Security, and Other New Features Made to MDE™
Peabody, MA, June 2001 – Strategic Reporting Systems (SRS) announced today another significant release of MDE™ V2.2. SRS continues to enhance MDE™with new features establishing it as the preferred product choice by users, application developers, technologists, database architects, and web developers who require access and use of VA VistA, DoD CHCS, and IHS system’s data.
SRS’ Chief Technology Officer, Brian Wells, explained, “Less than four months ago we added major new functionality into MDE™, which resulted in MDE™ V2.0. That was soon followed by MDE™ V2.1. Today, we continue our commitment to MDE™ with the addition of significant new functionality. As an expert in the M-language and numerous other technologies, I can report to you that MDE™ is by far the most superior product available today for easily, efficiently, and seamlessly cquiring data from FileMan-based MUMPS systems for use with other desktop or web-based applications, database technologies, and off-the-shelf type software products.”
MDE™(MUMPS Data Extractor) is a COTS (commercial-off-the-shelf) middleware application that natively reads the FileMan-based system, extracts its data, then delivers the data and pre-built SQL tables into any relational data warehouse/mart, database, or application. Unique to MDE™ is it DOES NOT require any underlying M-based SQL, SQL mappings, or M/Cache programming to be performed at the site. Within 60 minutes of installation, MDE™ allows, for example, the Department of Veterans Affairs VISTA, DoD CHCS, and other FileMan-based MUMPS system’s data available for use by mainstream technologies, such as data warehouse/mart and ROLAP, or products such as ReportSmith, Crystal, SAP, desktop office applications (i.e. Excel, Word, Notes, Access), and more.
Enhancements included in V2.2 are:
1. M Server Error Recovery System – allows MDE™ data extractions to continue when a FileMan error or FileMan data structure error is encountered during data extraction due to corrupt data in the FileMan system. In simpler terms, if MDE™ were to encounter a bad pointer, for example, it would make a record of that action and continue. Later, the user could investigate the corrupt file or data.
2. Extract Word Processing Fields – located within VistA, CHCS, and other systems are fields, i.e. lab or radiology, that contain text. MDE™ can now extract those text fields and place that data into a RDBMS, such as Microsoft’s SQL Server & 2000 or Oracle’s RDBMS.
3. Enhanced VistA and CHCS Security - Standard to MDE™ is the integration of VistA’s or CHCS’s user-access and verify code screen. With this release, SRS has enhanced MDE™ to observe FileMan File and Field level user-access and verify code permissions.
4. Separate Site ID from Key Field – Standard to MDE™ is the ability to link a Site ID to extracted data. Where users are acquiring site data from multiple healthcare sites and depositing that data into a common RDBMS or data warehouse/mart, MDE™ shows the location of the site from which the data was acquired. This is particularly useful in tracking a patient’s use throughout a complex of medical facilities. With MDE™ V2.2, we have added the option to separate the Site ID from the Key Field(s) for improved indexing performance within the relational database.
