Release of MDE V2.0 - Major Development Milestones Achieved
for VA VISTA and DoD CHCS
NEW Features Reduce Effort and Accelerate ROI

Peabody, MA, February 2001 – Strategic Reporting Systems (SRS) announced today a MAJOR NEW release of a MDE™ V2.0 (MUMPS Data Extractor).

SRS’ Richard P. Fried, President, stated, “Today a major milestone in our financial and development commitment to MDE™, its users, and potential new users has been achieved. This action sends an affirming message to the technologists, leaders, and executives at VA, DoD, and IHS that MDE™ is the best solution for acquiring FileMan-based MUMPS data for use with i.) Web-based applications, ii.) mainstream technologies, and iii.) contemporary COTS application software. At no other time has the VA, DoD, or IHS been able to use their data with other products and technologies as they can using MDE™. We are confident these agencies will continue to embrace MDE™ to extend the value, life and usefulness of their respective healthcare systems.”

Enhancements included in MDE™ V2.0 are:

  1. The Ability to Create and Save User-defined Data Extraction Sets. Create once and share with many. Tailor data extraction sets to fulfill application specific objectives, such as Network Performance Measurement reports, pharmaceutical cost reduction analysis, clinical pain management reports, COPD management reports, enterprise wide data collection and analysis, and more.

  2. An Electronic Catalog has been added to store saved data extraction sets. The Catalog uses the concept of folders. Data Extraction sets may be stored by healthcare site, a complex of healthcare sites, user, department, or in any other manner self-evident to the community accessing the Catalog.

  3. An Automated-Unattended Scheduler. Users can schedule data extractions to run 7x24 and on a repetitive schedule which they determine. Data extractions can be initiated to run during off-peak system times, such as midnight on Sunday. Using scheduler features within some reporting products, reports could then run against the updated database and have reports available for users Monday morning when users arrive at their office.

  4. Support of DoD CHCS Healthcare System. Data contained within DoD’s CHCS system is now extractable by MDE™ V2.0. Now, for the first time, data from VA VISTA and DoD CHCS can be shared between these organizations, with other third party companies, or combined into a seamless database.

  5. Field Counter Added. A field counter within MDE™ V2.0 Client to show total number of fields selected within an extraction.

From the field, one MDE™ user commented, “SRS continues to impress us with their commitment and innovation to MDE™ and their users. This new release expands the options available to us to produce world-class solutions using software and technology previously unavailable to us. Already, our Director and Executives are seeing great advantages using MDE™.”

MDE™ is a COTS (commercial-off-the-shelf) middleware application that natively reads the FileMan-based system, extracts its data, then delivers the data and pre-built SQL tables into any relational data warehouse/mart, database, or application. Unique to MDE™ is it DOES NOT require any underlying M-based SQL, SQL mappings, or M/Cache programming to be performed at the site. Within 60 minutes of installation, MDE™ allows, for example, the Department of Veterans Affairs VISTA, DoD CHCS, and other FileMan-based MUMPS system’s data available for use by mainstream technologies, such as data warehouse/mart and ROLAP, or products such as ReportSmith™, Crystal, SAP, desktop office applications (i.e. Excel, Word, Notes, Access), and more.

MDE™ is a standards-based pipe that connects perfectly between our MUMPS environment and relational database. By adding this pipe to our other MUMPS systems, we have constructed a low cost data transportation infrastructure making possible the integration of our enterprise data for cost analysis/reduction, FTE reporting, clinical research, and daily reporting of information that previously took weeks or months to obtain. Our management is very pleased with what we have accomplished in such a short time and for a low cost,” stated an MDE™ user.

Headquartered in Peabody, MA, SRS provides comprehensive expert knowledge about reporting and database integration. SRS is the developer of ReportSmith™ considered one of the most popular ad-hoc query and reporting products in the industry. Distributed worldwide, ReportSmith has consistently set the standard for ease-of-use and user-friendly robust reporting products. SRS provides on-site ReportSmith product training, consulting, and services.
